@zoocritter100 Have you had a turtle? I’m really excited because I’m getting to go to the pet store this weekend to look at them and have my parents learn a bit. We love Saint Bernards (we have 5)….but I really like turtles. Enjoy your guinea pigs, tell me how they are!

Guinea pigs aren’t starter pets. Their fragile and shouldn’t be handled alone by small children. Get your very young child a dog!

@LisaMA Glad you had such a good experience. Ironically, the dwarf hamster that we used in this video, just passed away last week. Four years old. A beloved family pet. Headed to get a Guinea Pig tonight.

I chose gerbils for my kids first pets because they are not nocturnal like hamsters and are awake more often in the day so the kids can watch them play They are quieter than hamsters which is a huge plus. We’ve owned them for over a year now and so far it’s been a very good choice. They rarely bite (twice the whole time we had them) and the socialized fairly easily. They also are very good at recycling card board!

My uncle had a gerbil and the only problem he had was if you left a piece of clothing to close to the cage it woyld shred it to make bedding.
